Canadian Armed Forces training exercise to happen in Huron County

On May 3–5, you might see members of the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) 31 Canadian Brigade Group and their equipment in Hensall and other parts of Bluewater and Huron County. The CAF will be in our area conducting a domestic training exercise where they practice for an extreme heat event. CAF members will be conducting wellness checks, practicing setting up cooling stations, and training to put out wildland fires throughout Huron and Bruce Counties.

There is no need to be alarmed; there is no threat to public safety.

CAF has planned for wellness checks in the Hensall area. The following information has been shared by the CAF about what to expect during wellness check training.

"The wellness check during this training will involve no collection of information, and soldiers will not ask you any private health questions. This is entirely voluntary and is more a chance for residents to meet the soldiers and for us to deliver the information the County wishes you to have. If you do not want to answer the door that is your choice, but the soldiers will leave the information from the County to review at your leisure. Also, if there is a no trespassing sign clearly visible at the entry to the property, then we will respect it and move along."

CAF is taking measures to ensure minimum inconvenience to those in the area. Members of the public are asked to take extra caution if approaching military vehicles and troops and are thanked in advance for their understanding and co-operation.

Questions can be directed to 31 Canadian Brigade Group Public Affairs Officer, Lt Paul Verheye at paul.verheye@forces.gc.ca
