ABCA issues flood outlook—Water Safety message

The Ausable Bayfield Conservation Authority (ABCA) has issued a watershed conditions statement—flood outlook, water safety message as of December 16th. The message will remain in effect until 9 a.m. on Thursday, December 19th unless otherwise updated.

An approaching warm front is to be followed by rainfall of up to10 millimetres (mm) to the Ausable Bayfield watershed area over the next 36 hours. Conditions are expected to melt most of the snowpack which may lead to high water flows and flooding in low-lying or floodplain areas. The potential extent of flooding will depend on the actual temperatures and rainfall.

Residents are reminded that all ice should be considered unsafe. In addition, please use caution near all watercourses. Slippery and unstable streambanks, streambanks hidden by drifted snow, and extremely cold water temperatures are creating additional hazards.

See the ABCA website for the full notice.
